History

From Penticton General to Pen-High, Betti was born and raised in Penticton, BC. Betti left after graduation, making sure to return as often as possible to see her family and enjoy the Okanagan until her recent, and permanent, return in 2020.

Education

Betti acquired her first Bachelor of Arts (Intercultural Studies) in Saskatchewan followed by her second Bachelor of Arts (English) in Alberta before attending law school at Thompson Rivers Law in Kamloops, BC. Throughout her schooling in Saskatchewan and Alberta, Betti worked and found herself to be entrepreneurial. In the years prior to law school, Betti started a small-business which eventually grew and led to an expansion from Alberta to Saskatchewan. Betti enjoyed the process of starting her company and advised others related to the process until attending law school. Upon graduation from law school, Betti articled in Alberta, and was called to the bar in both Alberta and British Columbia prior to her return to Penticton BC in 2020.

Style

Betti is known for her ability to explain family law concepts simply and clearly. She believes that the client who understands fully will have better peace of mind and the ability to navigate the legal process better than those who do not. Betti is also known for her focused and fearless litigation style, defending her clients’ interests against family violence including coercive control, death threats, criminal charges and child alienation. She is a strategic planner and has the ability to provide practical, real-life advice related to each clients’ needs, goals and circumstances.

Origin Story

Much of Betti's passion and drive comes from her lived experience as a survivor and witness of childhood family violence. She has made a name for herself in validating client experiences, advocating for the damages of family violence through the litigation process, and in demonstrating through her emotive presentation style in-court the practical day-to-day impacts of family violence.

Betti has represented clients in both BC Supreme Court and BC Provincial Court, with notable decisions including Paseska v Paseska 2022 BCSC 1862, wherein the Judge declined to order unequal division of assets to the Respondent as a result of family violence. The Judge further allowed the victim of the family violence to be released from payment for upkeep of the family home during the period in which she was forced to flee the home.

Causes and Community Support

Betti sits on the Board of Directors for the South Okanagan Women in Need Society ("SOWINS") and encourages anyone aligned to become involved with SOWINS and their vision for a community without violence and abuse. SOWINS as an organization has had a great impact on Betti herself - as a child she lived in their first women's safehouse when fleeing family violence.

Betti is single-minded in her goals to provide the public with information related to understanding BC Family Law and dedicates extensive time and research to this end. She is active on social media, primarily providing free legal information through her TikTok platform @therealbettiwhite . She does not provide legal advice over social media, only legal information to assist her community in understanding terms, concepts and the complexities of family law in BC.

Betti is not currently accepting new clients, but works in tandem with the team at White & Company Family Law by providing strategy consultation and legal advice as needed. Betti continues to provide consults pending her availability and the circumstances of the potential client,
